Maui Nui Golf Club offers mountain and ocean views and a recently completed long-term renovation project that simplified some hole designs, replaced some irrigation systems, and re-sanded all of the bunkers. In between two ownership changes, they’ve also added GPS on every cart, and updated the staging area and starter’s table too. The 18-hole 6,801-yard par-71 was designed by Canadian course architect Bill Newis. Its holes feature wide fairways, with a good mixture of long and short par-4s. Recent improvements to the design have made hole 1, 4, 7, 10,  17 & 18 much more forgiving. The 18th hole, a par-5 with a tricky green to hit in two, was revamped to make second shots better possibilities. The course has a good mix of bunkers that are well-placed in concert with the lay of the land and the prevailing winds. Most drives call for either a fade or a draw, but straight hitters will be rewarded on some of the tighter driving holes, like Nos 2, 5, 6, and 14. elleair’s four par 3s face every point on the compass, and are level. Its fairways are Tif-419 the greens are Tifdwarf. Maui Nui Golf Club competes with Pukalani Country Club, The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course, Kahili Golf Course, and Wailea Old Blue Golf Club for the higher-paying visitor.
