Pebble Beach, CA—Kalena Preus, Honolulu, proudly represented the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association (HSJGA) at the 2012 Nature Valley First Tee Open this past weekend (July 6-8) and played three great rounds with his PGA professional partner, P.H. Horgan III. The pair placed T2 with a score of 67-66-64—197 after being shut out of first place by a drained 20 foot putt on the 18th green by the junior partner of Mark McNulty, Tyler Broach.
Kalena received the prestigious exemption by making an application through the HSJGA and was selected based upon his academic, volunteerism and community participation, along with his golf merits. Kalena has given an early commitment to the University of Texas in 2013. Past recipients of the HSJGA exemptions include, Maggie Min (2011), Ryan Kuroiwa (2010), Alina Ching (2009), Anna Jang (2008). The HSJGA is honored to have the opportunity to annually award one of our standout junior members an exemption to this prestigious and life changing tournaments.
The format for the week includes 81 PGA Champions Tour professionals teamed with 81 select juniors and 162 amateurs playing on the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links and Del Monte Golf Courses. The Nature Valley First Tee Open showcases The First Tee, a nonprofit organization that provides young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop life-enhancing values and life skills through golf and character education. Clint Eastwood is the chairman of the event and Arnold Palmer is honorary chair.
